Citizen Scientist become first not-for-profit organisation to adopt BrowseAloud Plus  09 October 2012

Citizen Scientist Greater Manchester has adopted BrowseAloud Plus to provide their website visitors with a
more inclusive and accessible way to explore their Citizen Scientist Programme and discover how to make a
difference to health and social care research in their own community.

"Lack of accessibility options is one of the main barriers for people when looking at websites," said Francine
Jury, Project Manager at Citizen Scientist Greater Manchester. "Our website aims to raise awareness of
health related research and to provide opportunities for people to take part in research studies. Every
person in the UK has the right to know about this information so it was very important for us to ensure that
we could deliver this in a way that people felt comfortable with."

"BrowseAloud was recommended to us by Manchester Mencap who work closely with people with different
learning abilities and are one of our partners in the Citizen Scientist Project. When we looked into
BrowseAloud more closely, we were impressed with the range of options people had to access the
information. It's not just a text-to-speak tool to help people with visual or reading difficulties; there are
translation tools and podcast creation capabilities along with other useful options."

BrowseAloud Plus is the latest reading support solution from Texthelp that requires no download and works
with all major Smartphones, Tablets, Macs and PCs. This new 'zero download' solution delivers instant high
quality speech to assist those with print disabilities and those where English is a second language when
browsing the web.

BrowseAloud now offers a choice of products to suit individual needs, with options that include: high quality
voices and international languages, zero implementation (for web owners) and zero download (for web
visitors), secure web page reading, dual colour highlighting of text, text magnification, a dictionary, a
translator, an MP3 maker and a screen masking facility.

"We are delighted to welcome the Citizen Scientists of Greater Manchester to the BrowseAloud
community", adds David Robinson, BrowseAloud's General Manager. "They join the growing number of
organisations who are passionate about making website accessibility a reality for all."
