Human Rights Education Associates (HREA) has invested in a range of accessibility features to engage with the whole community.
One of these features was BrowseAloud; a speech-enabling solution from Texthelp Systems.
BrowseAloud reads website content aloud whilst simultaneously highlighting each word as it is spoken. This feature greatly improves comprehension for those with literacy difficulties, dyslexia, mild visual impairments and those with English as a second language.
Steve Courchesne is the Information Officer at HREA. He adds, "We are committed to making our web content as accessible as possible, so that everyone can benefit from our educational resources and online courses. Our investment in BrowseAloud ultimately extends the accessibility of our website. Anyone with difficulty reading online content can take advantage of the extra assistance now provided."
BrowseAloud continues to be the only speech-enabling solution that gives users total control and does not affect the look and feel of websites. It is unique in its delivery, in that all technology is provided free to the website visitor, with the cost covered by the website owner.
David Robinson, General Manager at BrowseAloud adds "We share HREA's vision to ensure that everyone has the chance to fulfil their potential and are delighted to be working alongside them to increase the accessibility of their services."
Steve continues, "Like the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, HREA believe that is vital to ensure that 'persons with disabilities can exercise the right to freedom of expression and opinion, including the freedom to seek, receive and impart information and ideas on an equal basis with others'. Adding speech to our website with BrowseAloud is just one of the many accessibility features available on the HREA website, visit www.hrea.org for more information."
